Tesla Model 3: Pre-orders reach 325,000 in first week

The highly-anticipated Tesla Model 3 has only been unveiled a little over a week ago and already it is surpassing expectations and breaking records.

According to Tesla, 325,000 pre-orders have been made in the first week of the cars release alone. If the numbers are correct, we could be looking at one of the biggest launches of any product in recent history.

If each of the 325,000 customers end up purchasing the vehicle and paying full price, Tesla could be looking at profits in excess of £10 billion.

Each of the people who pre-ordered the car had to pay a deposit of $1000, meaning Tesla has already made a lot of money one the Model 3, which as of today is yet to enter production.

First deliveries are currently scheduled for late 2017, with the vehicle going into full production in 2018.

Although this is fantastic news for the brand, some are sceptical about how Tesla is going to pull it off.

At the moment, Tesla doesn’t have the resources to produce that many vehicles in a single year, which means that it could be years before some of the pre-orders reach their owners.

If the pre-orders continue to pile up, Tesla will need to come up with a solution. Either, it stops taking new orders, or it finds a way of producing such great numbers of vehicles.

Some are comparing the success of Model 3, to the launch of the now-iconic Ford Model T. It was the first affordable vehicle in history that introduced cars to the masses and transformed the market back in the early 20th century.

Tesla Model 3 is the world’s first affordable all-electric vehicle, so whether the car will mimic Ford’s success should become clear in the next couple of years. Read more.
